The President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, known for drastically reducing crime levels by fiercely combating organized crime in the country, has announced the launch of a national program aimed at using prisoners, convicted of minor offenses, in professional activities such as carpentry, baking, shoemaking, painting, and general restoration work. In addition to learning a trade, the inmate receives a small salary and progressive sentence reduction. The Salvadoran government has also established partnerships with companies, ensuring that the ex-inmate will have a guaranteed new job upon release from prison.
