USA 🇺🇸: The Texas Supreme Court unanimously rejected a challenge to the state's abortion ban.
The plaintiffs, joined by two doctors, sued Texas seeking clarity on the ban's sole exception—medical emergencies—arguing it was too vague, putting patients at risk and leaving doctors afraid of punishment.
The state's nine high court judges disagreed.
"Texas law allows life-saving abortions," wrote Justice Jane Bland.
Abortions are not permitted for fetuses diagnosed with "life-limiting" conditions, the court wrote, unless the mother's life is also at risk.
Doctors who violate the law face up to 99 years in prison, $100,000 fines, and the loss of their medical licenses.
