A large fire is destroying the former Soviet aircraft carrier Minsk. The vessel was purchased by China after the collapse of the Soviet Union and had been abandoned since 2006 in a port on the Yangtze River, in an advanced state of decay.
The Minsk, a Kiev-class carrier, was once one of the largest ships in the once-powerful Soviet navy, with a displacement of 41,000 tons and the capacity to operate up to 30 aircraft. It was heavily armed with up to 200 anti-aircraft missiles, torpedoes, and anti-ship missiles.
It's a shame to see such a powerful ship end this way.
