Starlink can provide broadband high speed WiFi on airplanes, cruise ships on the oceans and just about anywhere on the planet.
The US govt approved billions of $$$ to subsidize high speed internet to rural homes and businesses. Starlink could provide that a $1,300 per home.
Starlink was approved in December 2020 to provide rural 643,000 rural homes for $886 million over 10 years. In 2023, the Biden Administration yanked the approval for political reasons.
Now other cable and fiber providers are charging the US govt up to $100,000 per home to provide the same service that Starlink could have provided for $1,300.
The reason it is so expensive to provide to rural homes with cable or fiber is due to the need to dig long trenches to reach very few individual homes or businesses. It is not cost effective compared to more densely populated cities.
