This is why the turrets of Russian armored vehicles often jump tens of meters after the vehicles are hit. Since the Russians employ an automatic loading system for the cannon, the ammunition is stored inside and around the turret. It only takes a spark for all of this to explode, launching the turret into the air.

In Western armored vehicles, such as the Abrams, Challenger 2, and Leopard 2, the ammunition is stored in a kind of doubly armored safe inside the vehicle, greatly reducing the risk of catastrophic explosions.
